Applying for 2028 entry?
This page sets out the rules for entry in 2027, which used the 2026 test. Universities usually publish the next year's rules in the first half of the year. Most carry over with small changes, so this is a sound guide to what to expect, but read UQ's own pages before you apply.
Courses
- Doctor of Medicine, provisional entry: a UQ bachelor degree first, then the four-year Doctor of Medicine.
- Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours), five years full time, at Herston and St Lucia.
How UQ uses the UCAT
- Medicine: a UCAT result from the year you apply is compulsory. The total decides who is invited to interview, and the minimum changes each year.
- Dental Science: the UCAT is required and used for selection. The current page does not set out how.
- UQ's current pages do not say which subtests are counted or whether Situational Judgement is used.
Published scores and cut-offs
- Medicine, 2026 intake: a UCAT cut-off of 2290, or 1960 for the Rural Background Sub-Quota.
- Medicine, 2026 intake: median ATAR of 99.65 before adjustments.
- Dental Science, 2026 intake: median ATAR of 99.3.
Cut-offs are the result of each year's field, not a target set in advance. They move from year to year. Scores and percentiles shows where a total sits among all candidates.
School results and subjects
- Medicine: an adjusted ATAR of 95, and Queensland General English or equivalent.
- Dental Science: an adjusted ATAR of 99.0, with English and Chemistry. Biology is recommended.
The interview
- Medicine: a multiple mini interview by video, with a different assessor at each station.
- At least half of the domestic applicants invited must be Queensland Year 12 students.
- Dental Science: no interview is mentioned.
How to apply
- Apply through QTAC if you have an Australian Year 12 or the International Baccalaureate.
- For 2027 entry, applications closed on 30 September 2026, with interviews in mid to late November.
The UCAT is booked separately from your university application, months earlier. See the UCAT dates and fees.
Places
- About 275 domestic places a year in the Doctor of Medicine, across provisional and graduate entry.
Rural, Indigenous and other entry pathways
- Rural Background Sub-Quota: 28% of new domestic medicine places.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entry, where the UCAT is encouraged but not compulsory.
- Regional pathways through Central Queensland University and the University of Southern Queensland.
International applicants
- International applicants need the UCAT ANZ. UQ does not accept the ISAT.
Also worth knowing
- Provisional entrants must finish their first degree in minimum time with a grade point average of 5.0 on the 7-point scale.
What this means for your preparation
Whatever the weighting, a higher UCAT total widens your options, because most applicants apply to more than one university. Start with the twelve-week plan, and try the free practice questions to see where you stand.
