Applying for 2028 entry?
This page sets out the rules for entry in 2027, which used the 2026 test. Universities usually publish the next year's rules in the first half of the year. Most carry over with small changes, so this is a sound guide to what to expect, but read Tasmania's own pages before you apply.
Courses
- Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine, five years full time. Clinical years are in Hobart, Launceston or Burnie.
How Tasmania uses the UCAT
- A UCAT result is required.
- ATAR is the first ranking. The UCAT is the second, ranking applicants with the same ATAR.
- The total of the three cognitive subtests is used. Situational Judgement is excluded.
Published scores and cut-offs
University of Tasmania does not publish UCAT cut-offs on the pages we checked. Scores and percentiles shows where a total sits among all candidates.
School results and subjects
- A minimum adjusted ATAR of 95.
- Chemistry and Year 12 English.
- Applicants with previous university study use the graduate pathway instead.
The interview
- The university does not interview for medicine.
How to apply
- Apply directly to the university, not through an admissions centre.
- For 2027 entry, domestic applications ran from 1 August to 30 September 2026. Late applications are not accepted.
The UCAT is booked separately from your university application, months earlier. See the UCAT dates and fees.
Places
- The total is not stated. At least 75% of domestic places go to Tasmanians, and half to applicants from a rural background.
Rural, Indigenous and other entry pathways
- A rural quota of half the domestic places.
- The Tasmanian Rural Training Stream: 20 places based at the Cradle Coast.
- Aboriginal Entry Pathway.
International applicants
- International applicants may use the ISAT, the MCAT, or a UCAT ANZ result at the 50th percentile or above.
What this means for your preparation
Whatever the weighting, a higher UCAT total widens your options, because most applicants apply to more than one university. Start with the twelve-week plan, and try the free practice questions to see where you stand.
