Applying for 2028 entry?
This page sets out the rules for entry in 2027, which used the 2026 test. Universities usually publish the next year's rules in the first half of the year. Most carry over with small changes, so this is a sound guide to what to expect, but read Monash's own pages before you apply.
Courses
- Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (direct entry), five years full time, at Clayton.
- The Extended Rural Cohort spends its clinical years in north-west Victoria or Gippsland.
How Monash uses the UCAT
- The UCAT total is used. Situational Judgement is considered only to separate applicants with the same total.
- December interview round, for Victorian and rural applicants: selected on the UCAT alone.
- January interview round, for the remaining applicants: an equal combination of UCAT total and ATAR.
- Final ranking: ATAR, UCAT and interview, one third each.
Published scores and cut-offs
- UCAT total needed for a December-round interview, 2026 intake: 2380 for Victorian applicants (94th percentile) and 2050 for the Dean's Rural List (66th percentile).
- Lowest ATAR to receive an offer in 2026: 96.10 for standard entry, 95.05 for the Extended Rural Cohort and 91.25 for bonded places.
Cut-offs are the result of each year's field, not a target set in advance. They move from year to year. Scores and percentiles shows where a total sits among all candidates.
School results and subjects
- A minimum ATAR of 90. Monash says the ATAR needed is usually significantly higher.
- VCE English with a study score of at least 30 (35 in English as an Additional Language), and VCE Chemistry with at least 30.
- Open to current Year 12 students, and to those who finished Year 12 no more than two years earlier and have not started tertiary study.
The interview
- A multiple mini interview of six stations on Zoom, taking 70 to 80 minutes.
- For 2027 entry: early December 2026 and January 2027.
- Worth one third of the final ranking.
How to apply
- Apply through VTAC only.
- For 2027 entry, VTAC applications ran from 3 August to 28 September 2026.
- Offers are made in the January VTAC rounds.
The UCAT is booked separately from your university application, months earlier. See the UCAT dates and fees.
Places
- About 234 domestic direct-entry places, of which 30 are in the Extended Rural Cohort and about 28.5% are bonded.
Rural, Indigenous and other entry pathways
- Dean's Rural List: at least 27% of domestic places, for five consecutive or ten cumulative years of rural residence.
- Extended Rural Cohort, with its own VTAC code.
- Indigenous Entry Scheme, assessed by panel interview.
International applicants
- International applicants sit the ISAT, not the UCAT.
What this means for your preparation
Whatever the weighting, a higher UCAT total widens your options, because most applicants apply to more than one university. Start with the twelve-week plan, and try the free practice questions to see where you stand.
