Applying for 2028 entry?

This page sets out the rules for entry in 2027, which used the 2026 test. Universities usually publish the next year's rules in the first half of the year. Most carry over with small changes, so this is a sound guide to what to expect, but read Adelaide's own pages before you apply.

Courses

  • Bachelor of Medical Studies, three years, with direct entry to the Doctor of Medicine: six years in all.
  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery, five years.
  • Bachelor of Oral Health, three years.

How Adelaide uses the UCAT

  • Interview invitations are based on the UCAT, with the three cognitive subtests weighted equally.
  • Situational Judgement is used only to separate lower-ranked applicants whose totals on the other three subtests are equal.
  • Final ranking: 20% UCAT, 40% interview and 40% academic score.

Published scores and cut-offs

  • The university says it does not disclose previous years' cut-offs.

Cut-offs are the result of each year's field, not a target set in advance. They move from year to year. Scores and percentiles shows where a total sits among all candidates.

School results and subjects

  • Medicine: an ATAR of 90.00 or higher, and one of Biology, Chemistry or Mathematical Methods.
  • Dental Surgery: an ATAR of 90.00, with one subject from Chemistry, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics or Physics and a second science.
  • Oral Health: a selection rank of 70.00 or higher, and a mathematics or science subject.

The interview

  • A multiple mini interview on Zoom, with at least six stations of ten minutes each, held from late November to December.
  • About 600 applicants are interviewed for medicine, about 300 for dental surgery and about 90 for oral health.
  • At least half of the school leavers interviewed for medicine are from South Australia.

How to apply

  • Apply through SATAC.
  • For 2027 entry, SATAC applications ran from 3 August to 30 September 2026. Applicants were told on 22 October whether they had an interview, and offers begin in January 2027.

The UCAT is booked separately from your university application, months earlier. See the UCAT dates and fees.

Places

  • The total is not stated. About 41 medicine places are for applicants from a rural background.

Rural, Indigenous and other entry pathways

  • Rural background entry. Applicants must sit the UCAT.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entry, with reserved places and no UCAT required.
  • Northern Community Care Stream for residents of Adelaide's northern suburbs, with no UCAT required.
  • Bonded Medical Program.

International applicants

  • International applicants for medicine need the UCAT ANZ.

Also worth knowing

  • Applicants who have completed more than two years of university study are not eligible for medicine.

What this means for your preparation

Whatever the weighting, a higher UCAT total widens your options, because most applicants apply to more than one university. Start with the twelve-week plan, and try the free practice questions to see where you stand.
