Applying for 2028 entry?
This page sets out the rules for entry in 2027, which used the 2026 test. Universities usually publish the next year's rules in the first half of the year. Most carry over with small changes, so this is a sound guide to what to expect, but read Auckland's own pages before you apply.
Courses
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, six years including the first year, at Grafton.
- School leavers cannot apply directly. The first year is spent in Health Sciences or Biomedical Science.
How Auckland uses the UCAT
- For 2027 entry, the UCAT must be sat in the year you apply, with a score in all four subtests.
- The four scaled scores are combined into one, so Situational Judgement counts.
- Final ranking: 60% grade point average, 25% interview and 15% UCAT.
- For 2028 entry, the university's page lists its situational judgement test, Casper, in place of the UCAT.
Published scores and cut-offs
- The university does not release UCAT scores.
- Applications for medicine rose from 1,370 for 2025 entry to 1,718 for 2026 entry.
Cut-offs are the result of each year's field, not a target set in advance. They move from year to year. Scores and percentiles shows where a total sits among all candidates.
School results and subjects
- Eight set first-year courses, taken full time in the year you apply.
- A minimum grade point average of 6.0 with no fails.
The interview
- An online multiple mini interview recorded on video: eight short stations, seven of them assessed.
- Worth 25% for 2027 entry.
How to apply
- Apply directly to the university.
- For 2027 entry, applications closed on 1 July 2026, the interview was on 8 September 2026 and offers are made in late December.
The UCAT is booked separately from your university application, months earlier. See the UCAT dates and fees.
Places
- 317 domestic places each year.
Rural, Indigenous and other entry pathways
- The Māori and Pacific Admission Scheme.
- The Regional Rural Admission Scheme.
Also worth knowing
- If you are planning for 2028 entry, check the university's page before preparing for the UCAT for Auckland.
What this means for your preparation
Whatever the weighting, a higher UCAT total widens your options, because most applicants apply to more than one university. Start with the twelve-week plan, and try the free practice questions to see where you stand.
